Founded more than 35 years ago, the Kanata Girls Hockey Association grew slowly until 1990 when the first ever Women's World Championships were played here in Ottawa. Registration shot through the roof, and we have continued to grow to become one of the largest Girls' associations in Eastern Ontario with over 700 players of all ages, playing on more than 40 teams.

The KGHA draws girls from Kanata as well as the neighboring communities of Stittsville, Richmond, and West Carleton.  Our annual KGHA tournaments draw teams across the province, Quebec, and the U.S.

Constitution

KGHA activities, operations, and executives are governed by our KGHA Constitution. 

Amendments to this document can only be made only at our Annual General Meeting (AGM). To have an amendment considered, it must be submitted to our Secretary no less than 14 days in advance of the AGM.

Program guidance

In developing the policy manual, it became clear that the Executive needed to also document guidance it has developed over many years, which could not be made official policy because it is not always achievable. This guidance can be found in the Resource section with Policy.

Gilhooly Volunteer Recognition Award

Each year the members of the KGHA are encouraged to nominate an individual to receive the Gilhooly Volunteer Recognition Award. This award is presented to a volunteer, or spouse team, who has shown exceptional dedication and commitment to the KGHA.

Code of conduct

The primary objectives of the Kanata Girls Hockey Association are:

• to promote the participation of girls and women in all aspects of female hockey,
• to foster and encourage leadership programs in all areas related to the development of female hockey in the Kanata region; and,
• to promote hockey as a game played primarily for enjoyment but also to foster sportsmanship and life skills.
